Quick Tip: Refilling a Swiffer Wet Jet Bottle

Quick Tip: Refilling a Swiffer Wet Jet Bottle

refilling a swiffer wet jet bottleMy sister recently convinced me to try the Swiffer Wet Jet. I am a scrubbing-on-my-hands-and-knees kind of floor cleaner, but as I get older I would like something easier. So I bought the Swiffer Wet Jet and I loved it. It is very easy to use and handy as well. However, I do NOT clean my floors with chemicals and I found the refillable cleaning cartridges to be both expensive and overpowering to my nose. I thought it would be a perfect floor tool if I could somehow replace the Swiffer floor cleaning solution with white vinegar. I was very happy when I found the video below.  It contains an easy and effective way to refill the Wet Jet bottle. This will save you money and allow you to use the cleaner of your choice. Check it out.

I have refilled my Swiffer Wet Jet bottle 3 times and it works like a charm.  This also works using a cup of water that has been microwaved for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Let me know if you try this tip out. Feel free to leave a comment. Share and let’s talk about it.

Update!

If you do this several times the plastic lid can be twisted off without any heating.  I have been doing this for over 6 months and the lid still does not leak!

Yay! Thank you SO MUCH for leaving this. I also have a Swiffer wet jet, and I haven't had to refill it yet… but I'd LOVE to be able to save some money and eliminate some chemicals from my cleaning routine 🙂 Thanks for sharing- I'll have to try it out soon.

I saw this somewhere else but haven't tried it yet because my swiffer solution isn't empty. I will be doing it though. There's another brand out now though that has refillable bottles and washable cloths. I may get that instead.

Love your blog, am a new follower from Super mega 7 and I voted for you on picket fence too.

That's really helpful! I don't have a Swiffer wet jet right now, but that's mostly because refilling it seems so expensive! Now maybe I can afford to have and use one. 🙂

  5. Oh man, I have been trying to figure this out for ages! Me and my family (who will now have much cleaner floors) thank you!

  6. I'm a hands and knees floor cleaner too and I have used these before but eventually notice that they miss stuff so I just use this for quick jobs and continue my main techniques of cleaning.
I enjoyed the video and I don't use chemical either so find this a great alternative.

  7. Thanks for bringing this wonderful video to my attention! I've heard of people prying them open with vise grips before, but it didn't sound like anything I'd be able to do on my own.

I'm always looking for ways to simplify and do things less expensively. I'm curious how well straight vinegar cleans the floor, compared to other cleaning products. Also, I'm assuming it's safe for Pergo, right? I'd love to give it a try, but I want to be sure first since we live in the church parsonage (i.e. don't own it). Thanks!

Your welcome to opening your eyes to the ease and wondercality (yes I made that word up!) of the Swiffer cleaner. I also LOVE the Swiffer duster. I bet you would love that to because of all the dirt that accumulates in the desert. I love the way vinegar cleans, but don't really like the smell. Is there anything I can do to make the aroma of the vinegar smell any better??

  9. Sophia, I use 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water when I clean. I always have a bottle of it handy. I find it to be a great cleaner.

Pam, if you use 1/2 and 1/2 solution, the smell isn't as bad and it should dissipate quickly as it dries. 🙂
