Movie Review: The Muppets

Movie Review: The Muppets

“It’s time to play the music.  It’s time to light the lights.  It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight!”   What child of the 70s and 80s doesn’t know this song?  The Muppet Show was one of my favorite television shows when I was a kid.   I thought the show was hilarious, imaginative, fun, and as an added bonus it had a character named Janice (the first other Janice I had ever “met”).  I was pretty excited when I heard The Muppets movie was coming out in theaters. Although I thought the previews looked a little too cheesy, I planned to to go anyway. I am so glad I did!

This movie was like one big trip down memory lane. The plot line is pretty basic and it takes place today, however the references and throwbacks to the original TV show were plenty and awesome.  It was fun getting to see all of the Muppets again, hearing the old songs, and seeing the same old gags from my childhood.  There was certainly a little cheesiness, but it was done in typical Muppet style.

I was worried that my children, ages 4 and 8, would not like this movie, however, they were laughing up a storm.  My entire family loved the movie and had fun while we watched it.  The Muppets are just how they always were, Amy Adams is charming as always, and I was surprised to learn that Jason Segel can actually sing.  If you are a Muppet fan make sure you go and see this movie.
