I was excited when I got the opportunity to review Tim Kimmel’s In Praise of Plan B: Moving From “What Is” to “What Can Be.” I often feel like I could be the spokesperson for Plan B and I was interested to read what Tim Kimmel, a respected Christian author and parenting expert, had to say about it. In his newest book, Kimmel shares motivation, touching stories, and humor as he comforts his readers, reminding them that God is there for them and is often the architect of Plan B.
Kimmel also makes a strong case that Plan B often turns out to be the better choice for you. He states that “Plan A has a bad habit of defining you, whereas Plan B seems to fit like a well-worn pair of work boots…Plan B allows us enough time to taste the coffee, smell the lilacs, and pick up the rhythm. It keeps us from believing in ourselves so much that we forget to trust God.” Kimmel makes the point that average is pretty good, while Plan A is overrated.
As I am a stay at home mom who planned for fame and fortune in her younger days, this book really resonated with me. I never imagined a life where laundry, dishes and menu planning would overwhelm me. I pictured a life filled with world travel, state dinners, and worldly success. But as I have come to know my God better and embrace my Plan B, I have found that Kimmel is right in his assertion that heroism is not always what we think it is. As Kimmel puts it, “It’s more commonly sticking to the mundane duty in front of you, day in and day out. Dealing with everyday breakdowns and annoyances with grace. Keeping on keeping on.”
Whether you are embracing or fighting your Plan B, check out Tim Kimmel’s In Praise of Plan B: Moving From “What Is” to “What Can Be” for some inspiration, encouragement, laughter and tears.

Oh wow. This looks like the book for me. I’ve just started living my Plan B. Plan A was causing me a lot of stress and Plan B, so far, has been a sweet ride.
This one is going on my reading list.
Send me your copy so I can read it too. Sounds like a very inspiring book. Thanks sissy.
