2012 Holiday Season Movie Preview

2012 Holiday Season Movie Preview

One of my favorite things to do is to go to the movies. The recent shooting at the Aurora theater was a terrible act and caused so much tragedy for so many families. We just went to the movies yesterday and I couldn’t help but think about those movie fans who lost their lives in the theater. The movie theater is supposed to be a place of imagination, escape, fun, and inspiration. For me, the movies will remain just that.

There are several movies coming out soon that I am very excited about, but this holiday season is going to be especially awesome in my opinion.

Flight (Nov 2)

flight

I am thrilled to once again see Denzel Washington in the leading role of a movie that looks phenomenal. Flight is the story of an airline pilot who saves the lives of his passengers and crew with an unusual landing. However, once the flight is investigated, the spotlight turns harsh for the pilot. This looks like an end-of-your-seat drama that will be a huge box office success.

Anna Karenina (Nov 9)

anna karenina

I am eager for this movie simply because it is one of my favorite books. However, I do not expect to be knocked off my feet since it is nearly impossible to take an 800,000 word novel and cram it into a 2 or even 3 hour movie. I also am not impressed with the casting of Keira Knightley as Anna.  I see Anna as bolder and more stunning than Keira (and not as thin). However, I hope she proves me wrong!

Breaking Dawn Part 2 (Nov 16)

bella

Before you say it, yes, I realize Breaking Dawn does not really fit into this list of movies that might see the light of Oscar.  However, I admit to being hooked on the addictive fluff that is Twilight. I am very excited about this release partly because it is my chance to get to the movies with a bunch of other women and hang out like a bunch of teenagers.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Dec 14)

hobbit 2012

Bilbo Baggins begins his journey to recover something, well… precious. I loved the Lord of the Rings books and movies, but I have yet to read The Hobbit.  My husband read it recently and is excited about the upcoming movies so I guess I’d better get in gear and get it read. I love adventure and fantasy movies and cannot wait to see The Hobbit, which is being split into 2 movies.

Les Miserables (Dec 14)

les mis

This is the movie I have been waiting for the most. Les Miserables is one of the best books I have ever read. I also saw and loved the stage musical which is what this movie is based on. I was so impressed by the trailer I saw for this movie and I believe I will walk away loving it. I had no idea Anne Hathaway could sing. Check out this preview.

The Great Gatsbsy  (Dec 25)

gatsby

I remember being annoyed by The Great Gatsby when I read it in high school, but I have come to love this novel. I am also a fan of the 1974 movie version starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. I am intrigued by the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and I believe that Toby Maguire is the perfect Nick Carraway. This story, like Anna Karenina, is a story of forbidden love and the price that is paid by those who embrace it. It has love, action, drama, and murder all in one torrid tale.

My local movie theater chain is going to make a lot of money off of me this holiday season! See you at the movies!

I want to see Breaking Dawn so bad! But I absolutely hate sitting in an overcrowded theater, so I’ll wait for DVD.
