Do These Shoes Make Me Look Old? #YearTil40

Back when I was a teenager my favorite shoes were Converse All Stars. I love basic shoes and appreciate a classic. I also love that they can be a little offbeat and unique. But once I hit my 30s I stopped wearing my favorite shoes because I felt like I was trying to cling to my youth. I didn’t want to be one of those women who look foolish when they are trying desperately to be hip. I would eye the Converse display at the shoe store and wish I could wear them in all their multi-colored glory. Sigh.

But then I started noticing middle-aged women wearing Converse and they did not look ridiculous. In fact, they looked pretty cool. Dare I say they looked better in their Converse than the younger people I so often saw wearing them? I felt inspired and headed down to the store to pick up a pair of my own. There they are on my big ol’ feet in the picture above.

It has been kind of transforming to wear these shoes again. When I wore them as a teenager it was more likely than not about looking cool and making a statement. But now, I just wear them because I like them. As I get closer and closer to 40 I have realized that my first priority in fashion is finding something that I like and feel great in. The days of worrying about what others might think are quickly falling away. Maybe you think these shoes make me look like an aging woman who is clinging to her glory days or maybe you are a middle-aged woman who has a few pairs of Converse in her own closet. Either way, can we agree that at 40 we should be comfortable and satisfied with our fashion choices?

I have decided to wear what I like. Of course, with age comes wisdom (most of the time) so I know my limits. Don’t expect me to go running around in a bikini this summer. But you just might see me wearing these…

Wonder Woman Converse

Next up, I may take on skinny jeans… or not.

What are your favorite shoes?

  1. I think the ones you have look great! Nothing wrong with them at your age, it’s kind of one of those things that works at any age.

  16. I had gotten a little bit inspired by the sling variety baby
carriers and attempted to produce one myself, which pretty
much worked. Turns out its not a sturdySeems its not the safest alternative,
but it was very comfortable when I created it.
I am now looking for a suitable adjustable baby sling!
