I do not feel like celebrating today. As I write this, at least 89 people have died in yesterday’s tornado in Joplin, Missouri. By some estimates, as much as 30% of the city is wiped out. When you look at pictures like the AP picture on the right, you cannot help but wonder how the people of Joplin will start their recovery. Where do you begin when your entire neighborhood is destroyed? Living in the desert of Arizona, I do not have to worry about something similar happening in my neighborhood. But with some of my closest family members living right in tornado alley, and witnessing the devastation brought on by recent tornados, I cannot help but wonder, how do people come back from such devastation?
Today and for some time to come, my prayers will be with Joplin. I pray that families grow closer, that the community pulls together, and that people everywhere see this as an opportunity to serve each other. Romans 8:28 promises “in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” This tornado was not a good thing. But good can come out of it.
Please join me in praying for the city of Joplin. Feel free to leave a comment. Share and let’s talk about it.

I'm your newest following from the Saturday Spotlight and hope you follow back. The blog post I decided to Spotlight of mine is also about the devastation in Joplin! Glad to see someone else posting about it too!
This is a horrific disaster. This really hits home because I only live about 3 hours away from where this happened and a tornado tore apart the southern part of my moms town in Sedalia, Missouri. I have been through many tornado watches and hidden in many bathrooms praying that a tornado does not touch down. I couldn't even imagine actually going through what the people of Joplin went through. I pray that you go to this website and give anything that you can to help the people move on http://www.redcross-ozarks.org/donate/
