It’s National Boys and Girls Club Week!

National Boys and Girls Club Week

I am blessed to be able to stay home with my children, but not everyone is in the same situation. One of my family members is a single mom who provides 100% of her children’s support and care. This can prove to be tricky during times when school is out, especially during the summer. She cannot miss work all summer long and she does not want to leave her children at home unattended. Enter Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Thanks to BGCA, this single mom has a place for her kids to go when she cannot be at home with them. But BGCA does more than provide after-school care. BGCA provide caring guidance and fun, engaging programs that help kids do better in school, give back to their communities and choose healthy lifestyles. More than 4,000 Clubs have opened their doors and served millions of kids across the nation and on military installations overseas by offering a place for them to grow and have a great future.

This week is National Boys and Girls Club Week, a time established to shine a spotlight on the good BGCA does. The Clubs invite you to open the door and take the tour. During this week, why not visit a local Club and see the magic happening behind their blue doors or take the virtual Club tour at greatfutures.org? The Clubs will also recognize this week by holding special service opportunities for its members. Even if you do not utilize the services of the BGCA, consider stopping by.

Just for fun, here are some famous BGCA alumni: Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lopez, General Wesley Clark, Cuba Gooding, Jr.,and Martin Sheen.  To see more famous alumni, go here.
