Meatless Monday is growing in popularity with more and more meat-eating people committing to go meat-free one day a week. Motivation varies from trying to make healthier choices to reducing one’s impact on the environment. I hope you are reading this because you are interested in implementing a Meatless Monday tradition in your home. Here are five tips for a successful Meatless Monday that will help you start your journey. It really is an easy transition!
Think Favorites
Sit down with your family and make a list of everyone’s favorite 2-3 dinners. Chances are that some of them are meatless. Homemade mac and cheese, spaghetti marinara, grilled cheese, bean burritos, rice and beans, and pizza are some common vegetarian favorites. Asking for your family’s favorites helps identify the meatless meals you already eat, and it involves them in the planning process.
Think Soup
Soup is an easy way to succeed at Meatless Monday. Many soups can be made or purchased vegetarian including tomato soup, minestrone, black bean soup, and potato soup. Add some dinner rolls or a crusty loaf and no one will miss the meat.
Think Outside of Dinner
Who says breakfast can’t be dinner? Many of the breakfast items you already eat are meatless. Breakfast for dinner can be fun. Pancakes, vegetarian biscuits and gravy, waffles, crepes, omelets, and fried eggs and potatoes are some vegetarian favorites.
Think Slow Cooker
Meatless Monday can feel overwhelming at first. Your chances of success are higher if you make the transition as easy as possible. I think we can agree that slow cookers make life easier. Having a few vegetarian slow cooker ideas can make Meatless Mondays a whole lot easier. Search the Web for some easy vegetarian slow cooker recipes like mushroom stroganoff, enchiladas, stuffed peppers, and not-refried beans.
