One of my favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes is “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” Sometimes I get discouraged when I see how many people I know who never serve or help anyone. They just go day to day looking out for themselves and spending their free time and discretionary funds on their own desires. It saddens me to think that we might be morphing into a society of takers instead of a society of givers. This year, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is being promoted as a day of service, or as a day on not a day off. This is a perfect opportunity to make a move and make a difference.
If you are waking up this morning and reading this post with your morning coffee, I challenge you to get out today and find a way to serve someone. Call a friend and find something you can do together. Serve a meal, babysit for a single mom, visit a shut in, pray with someone who needs comfort. There is a need out there that you were designed to meet. Find that need and meet it. That is my challenge to you today. Embrace it! You will not regret it.
“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.” – MLK, Jr.
Great post honoring Martin Luther King Jr.!
