After I got hurt running, I vowed to run again someday. I knew that this time, my exercise routine would have to include cross-training. Everyone, including my physical therapist, kept telling me that cycling is the perfect cross-training activity for a runner. I also kept hearing my sister-in-law Wonder Woman, I mean Holly, talk about her amazing spinning classes and how much they rocked. So when I saw that my local YMCA offered a group cycle class, I jumped all over it!
Group Cycle is a very popular class so I have to get there early and get a pass like the one you see at the top of this post. This is my ticket to ride so to speak. And what a ride! The class uses these awesome Keiser M3 Indoor Cycles. Over the course of about 50 minutes my instructor leads us through a series of gear changes and suggested RPM ranges as we make our way over imaginary hills and valleys. The starting gear is called your flat road and since everyone can set their own gear levels, this workout can be as hard as you want it to be. So far my flat road is 7th gear. My instructor encourages us to really push and I have burned as many as 505 calories in one class. Awesome!
This is the view I see twice a week. Just seeing this picture gets my heart pumping. Group Cycle has given me something I have not experienced in years: the joy of exercise. I truly love this class and I look forward to it. It has helped me feel like an athlete again and has also helped me with my running.
How about you? Have you tried a class like this? Did you like it? Feel free to leave a comment. Share and let’s talk about it.
Omg! I love to ride bikews and now that i am older with arthritis I am afraid I will fall and get hurt! I want an exercise bike but they are so big now that I dont have room.. I guess I need to join a gym, I really need the cardio because of my Type 2 diabetic FAT BELLY!
I have talked about doing a spinning class, but never did. It looks really cool! Maybe I should try it instead of talk about it. You go girl!
I’ve been looking for a place that has spinning classes in my area but have not found one. It looks like a good and fun workout.
my friend have that and is awesome! 🙂
I also love cycling! Would love to be able to do it at home.
