Honoring Our Heroes with Kleenex and Kroger Stores

There has been an explosion of superhero movies during my children’s lifetimes and I love it. However, if you ask my kiddos who their hero is, they will tell you it’s Daddy. As I have shared in the past, we are a military family. We have lived through combat deployments, local deployments, countless weeks separated for training, and at times, the feeling that everything could change any minute. That is why I was so excited to hear what Kleenex® Brand at Kroger and Kroger banner stores are doing to salute military members. I will share that below, but first let me tell you about my family’s hero.

Military kids are experts at many things. Unfortunately, they are often very good at saying goodbye. This is a picture of my kiddos watching their dad’s plane as it was pushing back from the gate. They knew it would be quite some time before they got to see their dad again. This picture just breaks my heart. These kiddos sacrifice a lot and I am so proud of their strength and resilience. My husband understands what they sacrifice and he always does whatever he can to minimize the distance. One example of this is his idea to eat dinner and play games with the kiddos via Skype when he is away. On his last combat deployment, no matter what he was going through, he always made a point to engage the kiddos like this when he could access the technology. Here he is playing cards with the family from over 7000 miles away.My husband is definitely a hero to my family, but my kids are my heroes as well. They sacrifice so much time with their dad and forego so much that the other kids get to experience, and they never complain. It is so inspiring.
