You probably know that the U.S. Constitution was signed into law on September 17, 1787. You may even know the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. I am a U.S. history buff and have always loved learning as much as I can about my country’s past. In fact, I used to teach middle school children all about U.S. history and government. Fun times! Maybe you disagree? Even if you do, this week is a great opportunity to teach your children a little bit of history and sharpen their civics knowledge. Why not use this week to challenge your children to memorize the Preamble?
I memorized the Preamble using a very difficult and scientific approach. Ok, that is a lie – I memorized it by watching Schoolhouse Rocks. To this day I still cannot recite the Preamble without wanting to sing it. Checkout this video with your children and issue the challenge. It will be fun and easy. Memorization and recitation are a dying art. Trust me, your kiddos can do this!

I can remember watching School House Rock when I was little. I’m not sure if I ever memorized the whole preamble though… probably once but I forgot everything I learned from school. hehe ;p
