Frank Peretti's Illusion (Book Review)

Frank Peretti’s Illusion (Book Review)

I am a big fan of Frank Peretti and I have read many of his books including my favorite, The Visitation.  I recently read Peretti’s newest release Illusion which is his first novel in several years. This book was different than any other Peretti book I have read. Illusion is a timeless love story which Peretti says was based on his own 40 year marriage. Illusion contains time travel, magic, conspiracy, and true love. It is an interesting combination that makes for a very unique and captivating story.

Illusion is the story of Dane and Mandy, a famous magician couple who are separated by her untimely and tragic death. As Dane tries to find a way to move forward without Mandy, he encounters something, or someone, he could never have imagined. Even though the reader knows more about this mystery than Dane does, the ride Peretti takes the reader on is full of twists and turns and surprises.

What I liked the most about this book was the love Dane has for Mandy. But what is almost as spellbinding as the love in this story is the magical journey Peretti takes the reader on. By the end of the book I felt emotionally invested in the characters and was on pins and needles as the suspense of the ending had me holding my breath.

I highly recommend this book. The pace was slow in some segments as Peretti built the background story but those moments are few and far between. Illusion is an enjoyable read and I will be passing my copy along to friends so they can experience the magic, too. If you want me to pass along my extra copy to you, stay tuned – I am giving a copy away this week!
