Child Hunger Ends Here – Ideas for Helping Locally

child hunger ends here

Last month I told you about an awesome campaign I am a part of called Child Hunger Ends Here. I hope you are following along and entering codes to help raise meals for children in need (more about that in a minute). ConAgra Foods has done a wonderful job with this campaign and so far they have donated the monetary equivalent of 3 million meals! But they couldn’t have done that without you! There is still time to help get that number even higher so let’s keep entering those codes.

Here is a reminder of how it works:

  1. Purchase participating ConAgra Foods products (look for the red push pin logo) and enter the codes into the Child Hunger Ends Here widget in my side bar (look to the left). For every code entered by August 31, 2013, ConAgra Foods will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Basically, one code = one meal! There is still time to enter codes!
  2. Allow location services or enter your zipcode when prompted. By doing so you will be submitting your local Feeding America food bank into a competition for an 80,000-meal donation! At the end of this campaign, ten food banks in the zip codes with the most entries will receive the additional donation.
  3. Help ConAgra Foods by completing this quick 30 second survey. Taking this survey will help ConAgra Foods gauge the effectiveness of their efforts to raise awareness and make a difference with the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.
Remember, look for the red push pin in grocery stores and purchase specifically marked packages of 19 select ConAgra Foods brands. Then enter the Child Hunger Ends Here code into the widget on this site (to the left). I love getting comments from readers telling me they have entered codes (hint hint).
Helping locally
This campaign is helping people all over the map, but how can you be sure to make a difference locally? Here are a few ideas:
  1. Donate to or volunteer to help out at your local food bank.
  2. Organize or participate in a food drive benefiting a local food bank or charity.
  3. Help your local food bank win 80,000 meals by entering your zip code when you enter your code into the widget.

My family helps locally through our participation in food drives at church, scouts, and school. The picture above was taken after spending a morning helping out at a local charity that feeds thousands every year. There is always something you can do so keep your eyes and ears open and you will find ways to help.

Child Hunger Ends Here - artists
As you may know, some high profile celebrities have thrown their support behind this campaign including Carly Rae Jepsen, Tori Kelly, Amber Riley, and Cody Simpson. If you have not heard Tori, Amber and Cody perform their unique versions of an original song called “Fill A Heart,”  you can listen to and download free song recordings here. I just listened to the songs and loved each version. Cody’s is very catchy and Tory and Amber’s versions gave me goosebumps.  They are a bunch of talented young people.

Let’s make this last week or two of this campaign really count and enter as many codes as we can. What do you say? Will you help make a difference? Look for the brands below and enter the codes. Thank you!
