Each summer I plan out fun and easy meals that keep my kiddos healthy and also cut back on my work a little. My kids are blessed because they have always had enough to eat and have never experienced food insecurity. However, that is not the case for millions of children in our country. Summer can intensify this problem for many families because the free or reduced price lunch they receive during the school year is no longer accessible. Many families struggle to put enough food on the table during the summer months but there is hope for families! This summer, 26 food banks in 18 states will use Hunger-Free Summer grants, funded by the ConAgra Foods Foundation (ranging from $20,000 to $50,000) to expand their summer feeding program, bringing more healthy meals to more children this summer.
Your family can help with this cause is a few simple ways.
Start at home! Tonight while you sit around your family dinner table, open up a conversation about food insecurity. Share with your children whether or not you have ever experienced food insecurity. What have you done to help others experiencing hunger? Ask your children if they have any ideas to help fight this issue in your community. As a family, plan out one or two things you can do over the summer to make a difference for families facing food insecurity. My family plans to make a shopping trip specifically for items to donate to our local food bank and volunteer time packing meals.
Take the video call to action. View, like, or share Kid President’s new video to raise awareness for kids who are at risk of hunger this summer and help make kids’ summers “awesome!” Every time you take one of these actions, the ConAgra Foods Foundation will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization, Feeding America, up to two million meals.1 This was originally going to be 1 million views, but the response was so great they doubled it!
Participate in ConAgra Foods’ Hunger-Free Summer initiative with Feeding America. The program, now in its fifth year, has supported the delivery of 3.8 million meals to children struggling with hunger over the summer. Volunteer at your local food bank. There are many opportunities to help. You might end up stocking shelves, preparing food boxes, or even leading children’s activities at some locations.
Advocate. To find meal sites in your area, call the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479).
There are so may ways to help. What do you plan to do? Be sure to start by watching this video and the ConAgra Foods Foundation will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization, Feeding America, up to two million meals.1
1For every view, like or share of this Kid President video recorded on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and Google+ from May 22, 2014 through July 31, 2014, the ConAgra Foods Foundation will donate 11.1¢, the cost for Feeding America to provide one meal through its network of local food banks. Minimum donation of 10,000 meals ($11,111). Maximum donation of two million meals ($111,111). Valid in U.S. only.

I hate to think about kids going hungry, so this is an awesome program.
With summer vacation here I have been thinking about those kids who get their main meals at school. thanks for these tips I will incorporate the best I can!
I live in a very rural and poor community and I know how hard it is during the summer for families to meet the needs of their families. Our local food banks need for peanut butter triples during the summer and it’s so expensive for them to purchase. I try to snag extra peanut butter and canned fruit when it’s on sale to help out local food bank that serves 7 counties.
It hurts my heart to think there are kids going hungry in our society. Like Brandy who commented above, I live in a poor rural community. Helping keep the local food bank stocked is a great way to help.
Conag is such a great supporter of children. Passing this video along. Great way to make people aware and love the campaign attached. Makes me so sad that so many go hungry.
It breaks my heart to know that kids go hungry. It is so scary and unfair. Kudos to programs that help alleviate this issue.
This is a great program. I am all for programs that help feed hungry kids. It’s a problem that breaks my heart.
I love that Con Agra has partnered with Feeding America to help kids get a meal and go to bed full.
I always make sure to enter these codes. I try to always support Con Agra
It’s so sad that hunger is a problem in our own country and not many people are even aware of it. This is such a great program-awareness is definitely key!
OMG I love that kid! This is such an important cause and glad to see people are trying to help!!
Too sad to think kids are hungry in the US. Such an important cause. I gotta hand it to you and ConAgra for making a difference. I want to take the little boy in the video home with me. Very cute!
What a wonderful program for a great cause.
Great tips for combating child hunger. This is such a tragic reality. My heart breaks for these children.
Those are great tips. It makes me so sad to think of children being hungry.
What a great program!! I have seen meals offered at our parks locally during the summer for the kids!
Every view makes a difference? That’s a super easy way for each of us to help!
This is so sad, what a great cause. I love when big companies dig in their pockets and help, that is awesome!
This is awesome, thanks for posting this. I seen way too many kids go to school hungry, we can’t forget about the summer months!
This is a really awesome program. Kids shouldn’t be hungry…not in this day and age.
I love that there are programs out there like this to help communities. Great way to also help support!
Such an important program. I hope the day comes that we don’t need it. Until then I wish more companies would get involved like ConAgra.
I love entering the codes….
Is there a list for the foods with the codes this year??
I hate knowing the fact that there are children and even families that go without the proper meals and nourishment each day. Since I can’t help everyone, I am glad there are programs out there designed to help the battle of hunger.
