Have you seen the movie Ford vs. Ferrari? Did you find yourself wishing you had the chance to drive a race car on a real race track? Or maybe your kids watched it and now you are afraid they will start driving your car like Bob Bondurant or Ken Miles? What if I told you there is a place in Arizona that does everything from teen defensive driving courses to high performance driving opportunities and training? Keep reading to learn more about Bondurant High Performance Driving School and the exhilarating day I spent there.
I recently invited out to Bondurant High Performance Driving School to learn more about the group events offered there. A group of us experienced five events of the seven they offer. These events are perfect for team building, corporate outings, wedding party celebrations, and other group outings where fun and excitement are expected, or at least hoped for. The five experiences I took part in are described below. At the end of the post I will link to Bondurant’s other sought after offerings, such as teen defensive driving.
Bondurant Group Event Experiences
The group experiences offered by Bondurant are team-building events unlike any you have done before. I attended with people I did not know, yet I felt like I was part of a group of friends by the end of the day. It was, without a doubt, the most exciting thing I have done (hello hot laps!).
Team Slalom
This event took everyone in my group by surprise. Since we were in a passenger van, expected a slow roll around the course. It was anything but that! The video does not do this justice. After doing the course in the van, we got to participate in a slalom in the race cars and compete as groups (relay style).
Accident Avoidance Simulator
This heart-stopping activity tests your skills, your on-road awareness, and sharpens your reaction times. Our group did this in a passenger van and it was amazing! The driver floors it down a lane and at the last minute a light changes color to tell the driver which lane to swerve into, while braking.
Timed Autocross Competition
This event pitted the individuals in our group against each other to see who could complete the autocross fastest. Our times ranged from 24.32 seconds to 32.15
Lead and Follow
The lead and follow put us on a 15 turn race track where we got to follow a professional driver as he showed us how to master the course. We all felt like real race car drivers until we got to the hot laps event.
Hot LapsĀ
The hot laps event was my favorite and was certainly the most adrenaline producing event of the day. We thought we were hot stuff driving around the track, until they strapped us into the nearly 800 hp cars with a trained race car driver at the wheel. We went around the track two times. I wavered between terror and exhilaration on the first lap. On the second lap, I thought my heart might burst, but I was loving it. My driver kept hooting and hollering and was clearly having a great time. Who can blame him?
Plan a group outing at Bondurant. Your group members will thank you for a long time!
