Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of nearly two dozen Marvel films and its release has been highly anticipated. The events of Avengers: Infinity War left audiences shocked and wondering exactly how the story would be finished. I have heard many theories about how the tragic events of Infinity War would be resolved in Endgame; every theory I heard was wrong.

Endgame’s writers had a big job to do as fans are expecting the resolution of many character story lines and an undoing of Thanos’ actions. The opening scenes give fans hope that the sought-after resolution is going to come quickly and predictably. However, our favorite heroes soon find themselves feeling hopeless. Can Thanos’ murderous actions be undone? Are the lives of half of the universe really gone forever?

Avengers: Endgame

There are times the movie feels empty, with many of our Avengers and their circle of friends and family gone. The world is struggling to move forward with half of its inhabitants gone in an instant. Survivor’s guilt, hopelessness, and despair seem to rule the day.

It would be an injury to my fellow Marvel fans if I shared any spoilers in this review, so I will not. Just know that the answer to the Thanos problem is not as easy as our heroes thought it would be. Finding a solution requires a journey across barriers they never knew could be broken. Along the way there will be pain, tears, hope, despair, and confusion.

Avengers: Endgame

Parents, please know there is death of characters that your children probably love in this movie. Be prepared for that. If your children have gone on the journey of the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside you, they will be fine with this movie. There did seem to be more profanity in this MCU movie than in previous installments. Profanities include the S-word and several GDs. However, there is no f-bomb and no sexual adult content. There is also a strong PTSD story line and alcohol abuse. The alcohol bit is done with humor, but it might hit home for people who love an alcoholic.

Endgame is approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes in length. Do not drink a big drink before the movie or during the movie. I hardly had a sip of my drink and so I did not have to leave, which was a blessing because this movie goes all over the place quickly. If you are a big MCU fan and you have a child that will be using the bathroom several times, you might consider going by yourself the first time. There are a lot of twists and turns and ups and downs so a few 5-minute holes in the movie could make a difference.

Avengers: Endgame

I was very satisfied with Endgame, particularly the resolution of several character arcs. After 22 movies, fans have become connected with these superhero story lines. There are times you will want to yell, cheer, laugh, and cry. This movie was made for MCU fans and I feel like the writers knew exactly what we wanted. I left the movie knowing the status of all but one character.

Finally, this movie is different from other MCU movies in that there is NO scene after the credits. Stay for the character images/credits, and then go use the bathroom. You’ve been holding it long enough!

Rating: PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and some language.

Worth seeing in 3D? The media preview I saw was in 2D, but I kept thinking it would be amazing in 3D.

Scene after the credits? NO!

Disclaimer: I attended a media screening of this movie to facilitate the review. All opinions are mine.
