Here are some tips to help encourage your little artists:
- Always be sure to have plenty of art supplies in your home. There is a plethora of affordable art products at Wal-Mart, Target, and even at the dollar stores.
- Give your child opportunities to create art without specifications (other than basic safety and neatness guidelines).
- Take your child to art museums and art shows.
- Learn to talk about art with your child. This book might be helpful.
- Display works of art in your home and encourage children to display them in their own rooms.
- Display your child’s art where everyone can see it.
- Invite your children’s friends over for painting parties or other opportunities to be creative.
Here are some art related web sites to explore:
National Gallery of Arts – Kids
The Metropolitan Museum of Art – Museum Kids
The British Museum – Young Explorers

Right now, Isaiah's art is just crayons. I love art, though, so we'll definitely be spending lots of time with various art activities as he gets older! I can't wait! 🙂
My children like to draw, but I'm afraid I've been rather lax lately at encouraging art. I've been hoping to help them start nature journals and have them draw some pictures in them. I think they will really enjoy that. Thank you for all the ideas and links in your post! 🙂
My 2 year old loves drawing and I cannot wait until he gets older and we can do more than scribbles 🙂 (even though I love his scribbles)
