Sounds like the start of a Thanksgiving joke right? However, this is no joke but rather a serious matter of public safety. Well, that is not exactly true either. Here is the real story. According to 11alive.com, convenience store manager Sheikh Jahid was surprised when a wild turkey decided to pay the store a visit and was walking up to the door. Jahid told officers that he let the turkey into the store and that the bird strolled up and down the aisles and ate the snack food he fed it. Police officer David Baldwin saw the turkey enter the store while he was handling an automobile accident nearby. Officer Baldwin took the turkey off of Jahid’s hands after the frisky foul had his fill of chips and water.
The Marietta, Georgia police department wasted no time in addressing this incident and it released the following statement to the media:
“This desperado was captured by day shift officers after it walked into the Chevron on Cobb Parkway at the North Marietta Parkway. A thorough interrogation revealed the suspect was only trying to escape Thanksgiving, so it was granted asylum and released safely back to the wild.”
According to the 11alive.com story, the turkey was actually released to animal control where he will serve seven days time to see if anyone claims him. If he is not claimed he will be set free in a bird sanctuary.
I hope he gets an unconditional release.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
