We have all watched personal accounts of war experiences shared on the big screen. These movies always move us and often leave us feeling a little shell-shocked. Megan Leavey is a war movie that is unlike most of the war movies you have seen. It is based on the story of a real-life Marine who unexpectedly joined the military, got into trouble, and ended up finding her calling.
After being assigned an unsavory job as punishment, Megan Leavey becomes a dog trainer in the Marine Corps and she and Rex, her K9 German Shepard, conduct over 100 missions on IED assignments. However, Leavey finds the battle of her life still awaits back home.
I watched this movie with zero knowledge of the real-life story and I believe it added a lot of suspense to my viewing experience. For that reason, I will not give you too may details, because I would love for you to have the same experience I had. What I will tell you is that Megan Leavey is a stirring and inspiring movie. It tells the story of war and reintegration without long and violent battle scenes. It tells the story of PTSD and reminds us that it does not only affect people.
Do not miss this gem of a movie. Feel free to take your older children. My 13-year-old son enjoyed Megan Leavey as did I. I think you will enjoy it as well.
Megan Leavey is ratedĀ PG-13 for war violence, language, suggestive material, and thematic elements.
What I appreciated about Megan’s story was how loving Rex enabled her to get through her suffering.
Nobody is really good fun, would recommend it to anyone after a fun action film.
