I recently had the opportunity to drive a 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid and I was quite excited to test it out on our family road trip. I have driven hybrids on road trips in the past and found the gas savings amazing. Toyota adds a little pizzazz on their hybrid models which makes the experience even better. The MPG on this Camry is 42 in the city and 38 on the highway. One of my favorite features about the Camry is that you can monitor the MPG in real time as well as see a history of the MPG for your trip. I noticed that if I accelerated rapidly on the highway, my MPG would drop to about 25, however, going downhill or coasting and that MPG reached up to 60. Incredible! My son also loved the energy monitor display option that allows you to see if the car is running on gas or electric and if the car is charging the battery. This car is more than great MPG. The 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid is stylish, technologically advanced, and a safe choice for families. This car is the perfect traveling companion for family road trips.
The Camry Hybrid is loaded with safety features. Aside from the standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and other features we are now all used to, Toyota has included an impressive myriad of safety features on many of its vehicles, including the Camry Hybrid. Here are a few of those features:
- Blind Spot Monitor – An available feature that lights up on your side view mirror to alert you to a vehicle in your blind spot.
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist – Notifies you with a beep and flashing light that you are drifting in your lane. Too many notifications and the car will suggest you get some rest.
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection – Detects pedestrians and lets you know of a possible collision.
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. I love to use cruise control on road trips, but I find that it can be a nuisance when in traffic. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is different from the typical cruise control because it uses radar to detect when the vehicles in front of you are slowing down and getting too close. The vehicle reacts to this situation by slowing down and then speeding back up as the following distance increases. It is pretty amazing.
