There's a Shark In My Driveway

There’s a Shark In My Driveway

No, seriously.  There is a shark in my driveway. The enormous freight truck you see above pulled into my driveway and dropped off the 15 foot long box you see below. Inside of that box is a 10 foot long thresher shark reproduction. You may ask yourself, “Why would she want a 10 foot long thresher shark reproduction?” Maybe you are thinking it is for my latest product review or maybe a new toy for my kiddos to play with.  The truth of the matter is that my husband recently went deep sea fishing with his uncle. While fishing, he reeled in a 10 foot long thresher shark. The rules say that the shark cannot be kept, but rather must be returned to the sea. But before it was returned to the water, the giant fish was measured and later those measurements were turned into the replica I now have sitting in my driveway.  Fun, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I am super excited about my hubby’s prize. It truly is the catch of a lifetime. But as you know, I live in a relatively small house and that might create some challenges here. Hubby knows exactly where he wants it to go and my children think it is the neatest thing to ever happen to our house. I am considering converting my living room to a beach theme and getting some sand for the floor. Okay, maybe that is going a little too far. But it has become something of interest to our extended family with the men impressed and excited and the women winking at me and offering me their condolences. You see, it is no secret that I am a little afraid of the impact a giant shark will have on the aesthetics of my home decor. But who am I kidding, the most consistent elements of my home decor are toys and laundry. So I guess the shark can stay…for now.

Stay tuned for updates. I will post pics when the shark gets all set up. But for now, here is a photo of what a thresher shark looks like.

  1. LOL! I find it only slightly amusing that this is going on at your house. I would flip my lid and then be super happy for hubbyman. As for the giant fish…there’s wall space in the garage. 🙂

  2. That is seriously the craziest thing I have ever heard! Also, poor shark 🙁 When fish are caught and released, they still have damage to them that can hinder their ability to eat or breathe and often they end up dying slow, sad deaths of starvation 🙁

No, my Dad and my brother fished in Bass tournaments my whole life growing up and it was catch and release! The fish are fine!

      • Agreed Debra! The shark will be fine! Besides, if they could have kept the shark, I would have been first at her house for supper…they are super tasty!

  3. Debra Wagner says

I cant wait to see it!! I say put it up under the carport!!

  4. If you got a piece of glass you could turn it into a great table 🙂 I’m not much on sharks either, but my boyfriend and son would love it lol.

  5. Debra Wagner says

Hurry and take a picture of it!

  6. I cannot imagine where that could be displayed in my house. If you had crazy high ceilings, you could suspend it from wires. If it swayed slightly, so much the better.

  7. I’m vegan and my home is way too small for anything 10 feet long to go anywhere but outside, where the birds and neighborhood cats would surely roost upon it. But it would make for great looking icicles!

  8. There’s a Shark In My Driveway, was fun to read. I look forward to the pics you will have after you have it all set up.

I choked on my dark chocolate as I was reading that. HU-LARIOUS!!!! I’d kill my husband. Then again, he’s not much of an outdoorsman so the worst I have to contend with is having Sports Center on 24/7. I can’t wait to see where it ends up. I guess if you have to have a shark, that’s a sexy shark to have on your wall. What a beautiful tail!

LOVE IT! My hubby is a big hunter and wants to badly to get a bear or mountain lion mounted for house but I keep refusing….I guess after reading this I might be a little more willing if it keeps a shark out of my house 😉

I think this is totally awesome! I’ve considered a beach theme in my home as well, although I don’t think I’d have room for a huge shark! lol

  12. haha, this is great! I would most likely have a fit…

  13. I actually think that’s pretty cool. I would love to have something like that. I think all kids and my Grand Babies would love it. Well, maybe not the grand babies yet but in the future..lol

  14. melynnie hashmi says

that was so sweet of you to do.

  15. Wowzers!! Yea I would LOVE to see it when it’s all set up. I would freak out if my husband had something like that delivered to the door. Geez! Bless your heart!

  16. Janice,
While I’m not entirely crazy about the shark idea, this could be one of those things that would make for a great conversation starter! I can see it hung on the game room ceiling, and lit up really nice…you never know ; it could be one of those things that grows on you! Can’t wait for the update, keep us posted 🙂
