Scouting – It’s A Family Thing

Scouting – It’s A Family Thing

Winning cake design. My son is about to finish his first year of being a Cub Scout. It has been a fun and family-building experience. He has had the opportunity to really work at specific goals, earn rewards for his work, build camaraderie with the other boys he works with and have fun at the same time. I highly encourage parents and guardians to get their sons involved with Scouting if they have even the slightest interest.

My son has had so many interesting experiences in the short time he has been a Cub Scout. He has built and raced a car in the Pinewood Derby, learned to shoot a bow and arrow, won a cake decorating contest, gone geocaching, helped with conservation projects, been in parades, made paper and so much more.  He has had the opportunity to try things he never would have thought to try.

HPIM6809One thing I really appreciate about Cub Scouts is that family involvement is encouraged. Parents, grandparents and even younger siblings are encouraged to participate in many activities. Another great aspect of Cub Scouts is the emphasis on character-building. The 10 Core Values of Cub Scouting are character development, spiritual growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fitness, family understanding, respectful relationships, personal achievement, friendly service, fun and adventure, and preparation for Boy Scouts.  What a fun and positive way to celebrate family!

Has your family been involved in any form of scouting? What has been your favorite experience? Feel free to leave comments. Share and let’s talk about it.

Following you on Twitter! I really like scouting but my son is really into sports. Both have its merits so he's not involved. I'm still very appreciative of what they do.

Junior was so proud of his racing car that he build with Eric. Hearing the joy in his voice over the phone when he explained what his car looked like and how fast he thought it was going to be was so much fun. I am glad that there are still amazing groups that children can join that encourage family involvement. Love how handsome he looks in his little uniform!
