I love a good sandwich but I admit that I get bored of them after a while. I also get bored making sandwiches for my kiddos every single day for their school lunches. I am willing to bet you can relate. I racked my brain trying to come up with easy lunch ideas that would make my kiddos’ school lunches a little more interesting but I could only come up with a few. A quick search of the Internet revealed several other really clever sandwich alternatives for school lunches. I put a list of my favorites together including some healthy lunch ideas, uses of left-overs, and even some cheap lunch ideas. Enjoy!
Hard Boiled Eggs – Pop a couple of these into the lunch box but be sure to include an ice pack. These are filling and add some protein to the lunch box. Follow the link to find out how to make perfect hard boiled eggs.
Soup – You’ll need a Thermos for this idea as well. Once again, you can make the soup especially for lunch or it can be soup that was left over from dinner.
Wraps – One day when I was out of bread I threw my son’s usual sandwich ingredients into a flour tortilla and he loved it. While it was not substantially different from a sandwich, it was just different enough to make that day’s lunch a big hit.
Crackers with Cheese, Tuna, or Sandwich Meat – Most kids love crackers and they also love constructing little mini sandwiches with them. Putting crackers in your child’s lunch not only changes up the lunch box routine, it also makes lunch more fun for your kiddos.
Pasta Salad – There are many different types of pasta salad but you know which type your children prefer. A light and colorful pasta salad can really brighten up your child’s lunch box. Here’s one with ranch!
Hummus and Pita Chips – Hummus is so good for you and kids love to dip, so hummus and pita chips are a sure fire hit for lunch boxes.
Salad – Trust me, if you make a good salad your kiddos will eat it. Check out this link for some great ideas. Greens are so good for your kiddos and they will help them perform better in school than a bunch of simple carbs will.
Bean Burrito – One of my favorite lunches is a good bean burrito. The beans provide protein and fiber which give your kiddos energy and fill them up. Oh, and they taste great!
Potato Salad – Potato salad is not just for cookouts and picnics. If your kiddos like potato salad they will love opening up their lunch box and seeing it inside. Yum.
I plan to make better lunches this school year (and more of them). How about you? What do you plan to do?
