Red, White, and Blue Popsicles – Dye-free and All-Natural

Dye free and all natural Red, White, and Blue Popsicles

I love popsicles. I really do! But it seems most traditional summer pops are laden with dyes and high fructose corn syrup. The good news is that you can put whatever you like into your own ice pop molds to create a tasty summer treat. The recipe below is pretty popular and not so new. I have seen variations of it in many places for years. I made a few small changes and loved the result. These do take a little time to make, but they are worth it and the steps add to the fun of the experience. My kiddos love helping with the layers and watching the timer. These red, white, and blue popsicles are a great summer treat, perfect for July 4th or any summer day.

Red, White, and Blue Popsicles (dye-free and all-natural)

Red, White, and Blue Popsicles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups strawberries, halved and hulled
  • 6 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 5 tablespoons lime juice (from 3 limes), divided
  • 3/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons half and half
  • 2 cups blueberries

Directions

Layer One (Red)

In a blender, combine strawberries, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice. Puree in a high power blender (if using a standard blender run the puree through a sieve to remove the leftover solids). Fill ice pop molds 1/3 of the way up. Freeze for 30 minutes.

Layer Two (White)

Combine yogurt, half and half, and 2 tablespoons each sugar and lime juice. Remove molds from freezer and pour yogurt mixture another third of the way up. Freeze for 30 minutes.

Layer Three (Blue)

After rinsing blender, combine blueberries, remaining 2 tablespoons sugar, and remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice. Puree in a high power blender (if using a standard blender run the puree through a sieve to remove the leftover solids). Remove molds from freezer and top with blueberry puree. Insert popsicle sticks or attach mold lids. Freeze for 6 hours or until solid.

To serve, run ice pop molds under warm water for a few seconds to release the pops.
