The Nut Job 2

The Nut Job 2

I was surprised when I heard a sequel to The Nut Job was being released. I’ll be honest, I did not like the first movie much. Contrarily, my daughter was “nuts” about the movie (sorry, I couldn’t resist). When she heard about The Nut Job 2, she was very excited and was happily looking forward to seeing it. Great. I took her to an early screening of the movie, and guess what? I enjoyed it.

The Nut Job 2 has most of the original characters from the first movie and begins with Surly taking the easy road and living off the spoils of the nut shop. Andie is not happy about the laziness and loss of work ethic and instinct being shown as a result. Just when it seems they might be able to get on the same page, an outside influence comes in makes them band together for survival.

The Nut Job 2 has a lot of teachable moments. Parents can discuss work ethic, teamwork, greed, friendship, and even safety issues. It was a fun movie to watch and I enjoyed it more than the original movie. It is not going to change your life or become an instant classic, but it is a fun movie for the family. One word of caution. Do not watch the preview which pretty much gives away most of the movie. You’ll enjoy the movie more with no idea of what is going to happen.

The Nut Job 2

Rated PG for action and some rude humor.

Running time: 95 minutes

Scene after the credits? Yes.
