From the opening scene, Matilda the Musical reels you in and takes you on a journey through the difficulties of childhood in a dysfunctional family. Based on the classic Roald Dahl children’s book, Matilda, the musical tells the story of a girl born into unfortunate circumstances who manages to be amazing anyway. It is a dark tale punctuated by moments of hope and dreams. Matilda the Musical is a feast for the eyes and a shot to the spirit. It is an experience that will draw cheers, jeers, and tears. The cast of Matilda is made up of many child actors with immense talent and spark. I was amazed by their talent and drawn in by their energy. Each member of the cast, even the mean characters, will steal your heart or capture your sense of humor. This musical is ingeniously choreographed and full of witty banter and attitude. Even though there are some darker scenes, my nine-year-old daughter loved this musical and it is family-friendly. Be aware that there is some crude humor (but no profanity or adult content).
