5 Tips for Healthy Hair and Skin (Plus Sweepstakes Info)

This post was sponsored by Nature Made as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

When I was younger, my hair was always amazing, even when I did not try. Now that I am over 40, I find my hair is not quite what it used to be. I still get compliments on my color, but I can feel the difference in its overall health. I have to take deliberate steps to keep my hair healthy, and today I want to share some tips with you. These tips will also help with your skin and nail health. (Remember to read through the post to the sweepstakes information near the end).

5 Tips for Healthy Hair and Skin

Drink water. I live in the desert so I understand the importance of water very well. That does not mean that I always get enough to drink, though. Chances are that you do not either. It is impossible to have healthy hair, nails, and skin if you do not have enough water in your diet. Experts recommend 0.5 to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight, depending on activity levels and climate.

Eat healthful foods. Garbage in, garbage out does not just apply to your brain. The same idea holds true for the rest of your body as well. Too much junk food and not enough fruits and vegetables is a path to poor health, including hair, nail, and skin health. Next time you find yourself reaching for another sugary treat, eat an apple instead. Want something else to crunch on? Try carrots instead of chips. I love junk food, but all things in moderation.

Get some rest. Let’s face it, it can be very difficult to get enough sleep when you are raising a family. But the harsh truth is that your body cannot be its best when it does not have enough sleep. Experts argue that just one more hour of sleep a night can improve your overall health. Lack of sleep also makes our appearance less than stellar since we end up with bags under our eyes and no energy to put ourselves together in the morning. Hit the sack ladies!

Go easy on the heat/sun. Sometimes putting ourselves together in the morning means blow drying our hair and using a flat or curling iron. These can be very harsh on our hair so reduce that heat or use heat protection products if possible. The sun is also pretty tough on your hair and skin. Use sunscreen, cover up, and wear a hat when possible.

Give your body some help. Even when we do all the things listed above, our bodies can still use a little help. Be sure to take a multi-vitamin everyday. I love Nature Made products, especially the Hair, Skin, and Nails gummies. Nature Made is the vitamin recommended most by pharmacists. I picked up my Hair, Skin, and Nails gummies at my local Fry’s (Kroger) grocery store.Nature Made is sharing weekly motivations and chances to win prizes over on their Facebook page. Nature Made Vitamins is partnering with Women’s and Men’s Health to sponsor promotions on Facebook until April 9. Prizes include Blue Apron, Lululemon, and Sephora gift cards as well as FitBits and a one-year membership to Nature Box.

Plus, Nature Made Vitamins is giving away a spa vacation including a four-day/three-night trip for two to the Red Mountain Resort in Ivans, Utah. You can enter to win by going here (until April 9).

I switched to gummies because I find I am more likely to take them if I can chew them. The Hair, Skin, and Nails gummies are pretty tasty, are small, and you only need to take two. Easy peasy!

What tips do you have for hair, skin, and nail health? Feel free to share your tips in the comments. Also, make sure you visit Nature Made Vitamins on Facebook and on the sweepstakes page for a chance to win and find other ways to one-up your health.
