My children made paper bag trees on a recent visit to the Children’s Museum of Phoenix. This is a fun and easy craft that children of varied ages can make. The trees turn out awesome even though this is such an easy craft. These trees are easy to customize and can either be scary Halloween trees or pretty fall trees. Younger children need supervision with the cutting but will likely be able to form the branches by themselves. My children are eight and four years old and they each enjoyed this activity.
Paper Bag Trees
- Open a paper lunch bag and crunch it up into a ball.
- Flatten the bag out and rub both sides with the flat side of a crayon.
- Tear slits from the top down that are 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.
- Flatten out the bottom of the bag so it will stand up.
- Crunch the middle of the bag to form a trunk.
- Crunch and twist the branches.
- Glue on leaves, flowers, apples or whatever items you want.
This is about as close to a fall tree as we will get around here. My children love these trees. Have you ever made a paper bag tree?

That looks fun! My oldest dd has been to the children’s museum in Phoenix! I am not sure if I have been to that one or not – but I know that her grandmother took her there once or twice. They had fun.
