Breakfast at Home Makes Cents

We live about 30 minutes from everything. It takes us about that long to get to school, church, scouts, dance class, you name it. Add that to the fact that my daughter takes forever to get ready and my son and I really drag in the morning and it can just be easier to hit a drive-thru for breakfast. The problem is that one dip into our local coffee shop usually sets us back about $10. Do this a few times a week and we are talking some serious money. For that same $10 I could have bought a carton of milk and a box of cereal that would have lasted us a week. It is pretty obvious that eating breakfast at home saves money.

My preference is to make a hearty and healthy breakfast at home but many mornings there just isn’t time. I love cereal, especially General Mills cereals, because I can get whole grains into my kiddos’ breakfast and they feel like they are getting a treat. Also, I know that they are eating a more complete breakfast than they would have gotten at the drive-thru. My all-time favorite cereal is Lucky Charms. I don’t buy it as often as the kiddos would like because when there’s Lucky Charms in the house I will eat it for breakfast, as a snack, and even as a dessert. Hey, “they’re magically delicious.”

    I’m all about multigrain cheerios now, but I also like Fiber One. I know… totally boring, but big plusses on Weight Watchers w/ bananas or berries in either of those! My kids love the sweet stuff, but I try not to get too much of that. And they have box tops— a big selling point in our house!

    Iam 64 years old and have been eating Cheerios for as long as I can remember. As an adult I learned that you can add fruit, put them on ice cream and even make a wonder cookie with Cheerios. Yes you Mothers with little boys my have played Sink The Cheerios as a potty training lesson. HA HA
