Appreciating Your Daughter

Appreciating Your Daughter

I always pictured my life as a mom of a little girl as one filled with, well, sugar and spice and everything nice. I never envisioned the drama a little girl can bring.  I never knew that a girl as young as two years old could have a total meltdown over mismatched clothes and fashion preferences. Like a lot of moms out there, I romanticized the life I would have with my little princess from the moment the ultrasound tech told me I was having a girl. But then reality hit and I had the realization that my daughter might be just like me – human and imperfect. There are days when my daughter really challenges me and today was one of them. But then a song on the radio reminded me that these little girl years are fleeting and will be gone before I know it, so I took a minute to think about the ways that my daughter delights and blesses me. Appreciating your daughter can be difficult when she is trying your patience and your confidence in your parenting skills, but it is so very important to do.

The song I heard today that stopped me in my tracks is one that always makes me cry. Steven Curtis Chapman is the father of several daughters and his song Cinderella was inspired by his experiences with them. Unfortunately, one of his sweet daughters died in a tragic accident not too long after this song was released, giving the song a new meaning to many of his fans. When I hear this song it not only reminds me of how quickly our children grow up, but also of how quickly they can leave this earth.

My heart breaks for parents like Mr. Chapman and my sister who also lost a daughter. I cannot imagine my life without my daughter  My daughter can be a handful, but she is also the sweetest girl I know. I love the way she grabs my face, turns it to the side, and then plants five kisses on my cheek in rapid succession. I love her passion for dance and music. I love her wit and her strength. She adds so much color and joy to my world. Lord above, thank you for this sweet girl!

Please take a few minutes to watch this video and then tell me one wonderful thing about your daughter.

I have 4 Cinderellas in my life including my beautiful, wonderful smart and sassy grandaughter that I love so much .She always puts a smile or laugh on my face! My 3 daughters mean everything to me. They are very special in their own ways to me. All are beautiful and intelligent and loving. When they were young we did everything together just me and my girls. Camping, vacationing, gardening, sight seeing, picnicing, movies you name it we did it all together, just us! I appreciate all my Cinderellas and just thinking about how wonderful they are just makes me smile so big! Love you

  2. My 5yo little monkey learned to wink last year. A bright point in any day is when she says something -deadpan- and follows it up with a quick wink and a giggle. She particularly likes to catch my eye in the rear view mirror and flash me a wink and a grin. Brings joy every time!

My precious 3 1/2 year old princess recently became a middle child. I love how sassy and feisty and hilarious she can be. Even when she’s intentionally being ornery to get a response from me, it’s with an engaging smile. She’s little miss independent, but she still needs her mama. I love her dearly!

Boy, can I relate! I LOVED all the ups and downs of raising 2 girls. It was never dull. My little pumpkin and pickles are all grown up and are now my best friends. I’ll admit that they didn’t like me at times, but it feels very rewarding to be a constant in their lives and to feel loved and appreciated. And even hear things like, I’m so glad you were there for me, or even ocassionally ask my advice, wow! Best job on the planet!

I am currently pregnant and am hoping for a little girl! I would love the drama and sweetness that a little girl brings. My mother and two sisters mean the world to me and I have so many fond memories with them that I would never change. I am glad you have had the experience of a little girl!!

    Thanks for my morning cry..
What a beautiful song and touching blog – thank you for posting. I’m so sorry for your sister. I lost my first born son to leukemia before my other two children were born. Knowing that life is so fragile helps you cherish your children, even when they are driving you crazy.

I have a daughter and I agree with your post completely. My little ones was always a Diva – the drama was always simmering — completely different than her brothers. She has grown to be an impressive young lady so I guess I did something right.

  11. Wow, beautiful song! I have never heard that before! I have two beautiful Cinderellas in my life. One is a very free spirit who will dance around anywhere without a care in the world. My other little beauty is just a very sweet natured little princess who can bring a smile to anyones face. I love both of my beautiful Cinderellas & dont know what I’d do without them! <3
