Salad Pitas: Easy, Delicious, and Nutritious

Salad Pitas: Easy, Delicious, and Nutritious

I am always on the lookout for healthy meal ideas that my kiddos will love.  I also love to try new things and experiment with the food we eat. Since my son loves salad and pita bread, I put them together to make a salad pita. He loved it and even tried to steal mine.

Step 1: Make a salad.

This is such a simple idea.

  1. Make a salad using ingredients you like. We used what we had on had which was green leaf lettuce, kale, carrots, broccoli, and ranch dressing.
  2. Stuff your salad into a pita.
  3. Enjoy!

I bought whole wheat pitas for this meal. When buying pitas you will notice that some are labeled as pocketed.  Be sure to get pitas that you can stuff. The ones I picked up at the store were pocketed on the inside, but I had to cut the very top of the pita off to create an opening.

This was truly an enjoyable lunch for my family. It was more filling than just a salad but more vibrant and nutritious than the sandwiches we usually eat around here.  Try it and let me know what you think. Feel free to leave a comment. Share and let’s talk about it.

A satisfying lunch.

  1. Yummys so yummy!

  2. Yum! I love salads and pita. Baiz Market in Phoenix makes pita bread onsite daily, white and wheat. I think its only $1 a bag and freezes beautifully so you can stock up.

  3. We have two great recipes that we love to eat in a pita. One is a nice Greek salad. The other is called Souvlaki. It’s chicken, lettuce, olives, tomatoes and a tzatziki type sauce.

  4. I love pita bread and would love to try this recipe. I’ve held strong on my 2012 resolutions so far (albeit a few slips along the way). I’m pinning this recipe ;) Thanks
